Summary: Faced with a dull summer in the city, Jane, Mark, Katharine, and Martha suddenly find themselves involved in a series of extraordinary adventures after Jane discovers an ordinary-looking coin that seems to grant wishes. The problem with the coin is that it only grants half the wish and so they have t wish for twice as much as they want. They decide that each one will have a turn to make a wish. Jane finds a strange coin. She wishes for a fire. Instead of getting a whole fire she gets a half of a fire. The children and their mother each get a turn at their wish except they have to wish it twice as much! Somehow in all of their adventures a man shows up. His name is Mr.Smith. Their mother secretly has a crush on him and Mr.Smith has a crush on their mother. In the end they get married to each other. The children decide to drop the coin and give it to someone else. 7
